Timber design to SIA 265
Solid timber, glulam and cross-laminated timber members.
Design checks for solid timber and glulam members to SIA 265:2021, the Swiss standard for timber structures: tension, compression, bending, shear, torsion and their combinations, bearings, reinforcement and serviceability, at the ultimate limit state and in fire. Cross-laminated timber (CLT), for which SIA 265 has no provisions, and timber shear walls use the rules of EN 1995. Each module shows every step of the calculation with its formula and the clause it comes from, so the result can be checked line by line. SIA 265: modules and clauses.
Check
- TensionBars in axial tension, on the net section.
- CompressionBars and columns in axial compression, with buckling.
- Simple bendingBeams bent about one axis, with lateral torsional buckling.
- Biaxial bendingBeams bent about both axes, with lateral torsional buckling.
- ShearShear in beams, with transverse stress and notched supports.
- TorsionBeams in torsion, alone or combined with shear.
- Tension and biaxial bendingMembers under axial tension and bending about both axes.
- Compression and biaxial bendingMembers under axial compression and bending about both axes.
- BearingCompression perpendicular to the grain at a support.
- ServiceabilityDeflection of beams and horizontal displacement of columns and frames.
- ReinforcementScrews and rods reinforcing bearings and curved beams.
- Shear wallTimber-frame walls sheathed with boards, under racking.
- CLTCross-laminated timber panels.
