EN 1995 (Eurocode 5) — Design of timber structures
EN 1995, Eurocode 5, is the European standard for the design of timber structures: part 1-1 gives the general rules and the rules for buildings, part 1-2 the structural fire design. SIA 265, the Swiss timber standard, has no provisions for cross-laminated timber (CLT), and treats shear walls in principle only. For CLT, the modules on this site take the partial factor and the modification factor k_mod from EN 1995-1-1 and the fire values from EN 1995-1-2. For shear walls, the module offers the simplified racking method of EN 1995-1-1 (or of DIN 1052), with the fastener capacities of SIA 265/1. Each step says which part it comes from.
Modules that apply EN 1995
-
CLT floor panel
Bending and rolling shear of a one-way cross-laminated floor panel, at the ultimate limit state.
Clauses checked: EN 1995-1-1, EN 1995-1-1, table 3.1
-
CLT floor panel — deflection and vibration
Deflection with creep, floor stiffness under a point load and the vibration span limit of a one-way CLT floor panel.
-
CLT floor panel — fire situation
Bending of the charred lay-up of a one-way CLT floor panel in the fire situation.
Clauses checked: EN 1995-1-2
-
Shear wall
Racking resistance of a sheathed timber-frame wall: fasteners, sheathing and anchorage.
Clauses checked: EN 1995-1-1, §9.2.4.1(7), EN 1995-1-1, §9.2.4.2, EN 1995-1-1, §9.2.4.2 (9.21), EN 1995-1-1, §9.2.4.2 (9.22), EN 1995-1-1, §9.2.4.2 (9.23), EN 1995-1-1, §9.2.4.2(11), EN 1995-1-1, §9.2.4.2(2) · §9.2.4.3.1(2), EN 1995-1-1, §9.2.4.2(5), EN 1995-1-1, §9.2.4.2(7)
The norm itself is published by SIA and is not reproduced here. Each module cites the clauses it applies, so every step can be checked against your own copy of EN 1995.
